Carry the Fire
I have been a thrice fan for years now. I would have to say that Dustin Kensrue has been one of my biggest influences vocally as well as on guitar. I think a big part of it is how he incorporates his beliefs and faith into his music in such a tasteful way.
Having grown up in the Christian music culture I have become extremely jaded with the poor attempts of lyrical depth in these topics. This song There’s Something Dark really hit a cord with me the first listen though Carry the Fire.
There’s Something Dark
Over the weekend of July 4th my best friend from college killed himself in a murder suicide. I knew he struggled with this demons of PTSD but I felt worse that I didn’t know that he was struggling so much. The last time I saw him was the Gettysburg Fest that we played at the Flying Bull Saloon February 8th. Arty was always a hug supporter of my music from my past band to Awaking Mercury. His mom told me that she found Dear Benjamin in his CD play in his car. She said it was a regular rotation for him to listen to. He was very close to Ben Carr who that album was dedicated to.
From the moment I learned about Arty’s death There’s Something Dark was in the back of my head. This video was something that I had to make for the sake of my own therapy. I hope all the Thrice and Dustin Kensrue fans enjoy it.
